For owners taking residency on their own licence

A founder taking their own residency on their own licence

The short answer

A founder takes residency on their own UAE company through the company's immigration file: the establishment card, an entry permit, the medical test and Emirates ID, and the residence visa issued in the passport. The choice at the start โ€” a partner or investor visa, or an employment visa under your own company โ€” decides your salary reporting, your payroll obligations and how a bank reads you, and we make it with you before anything is lodged.

A residence visa on your own company is a sequence, and every step depends on the one before. The licence must be issued; the company must hold an establishment card with the immigration authority; the entry permit is issued against a quota the company's premises and activity allow; the status is changed inside the country or activated on entry; the medical test and the Emirates ID application follow; and the visa is issued for the term the authority sets. Each authority decides its own step, on its own criteria, in its own time.

The decision that outlasts all of that is the visa category. As a partner or investor you hold the visa on your shareholding; as an employee of your own company you hold it on a labour contract with a declared salary, and in most cases a payroll obligation follows. Both are ordinary; which one fits depends on your shareholding, whether you draw a salary, what your bank will ask and what your home-country adviser needs to see.

This is for you if

  • You are the owner, or a shareholder, of a UAE company and want to live in the UAE on it.
  • You are forming the company with us and want the residency planned in the same sequence.
  • You want the investor-or-employee choice made on your facts โ€” shareholding, salary, banking โ€” not by default.
  • You will sponsor family later and want the first visa to make that possible.

This may not be the right route if

  • You want residency without a licensed company โ€” the golden, green, freelance or remote-work visas are their own routes.
  • You expect a processing time or an approval to be promised; the authority decides both.
  • You will not spend time in the UAE and want the visa only as a document.

Indicative cost
Government, medical and Emirates ID fees are the authority's and charged as they are; the VelaroZone service fee for the file and the applications is itemised in your engagement letter.
Timing
The file opens once the licence is issued; each step waits on the authority's decision on the one before, and we report by stage.
What's included
  • The partner-or-employee choice made on your facts
  • Establishment card, entry permit, medical and Emirates ID prepared and followed
  • Renewals held on the licence's calendar

What this service includes

  • The category chosen with you โ€” partner or investor, or employment โ€” on your shareholding, salary and banking facts.
  • The establishment card and the immigration file opened for the company, where not yet done.
  • The entry permit, status change or activation, medical test, Emirates ID and visa issuance prepared, lodged and followed.
  • The renewals and amendments that follow, held on the same calendar as the licence.
  • A written note of what the visa means for salary, payroll and the bank, for your home-country adviser.

What it does not include

  • The authority's decision, its criteria or its processing time.
  • Home-country tax or residency advice; we coordinate with your adviser.
  • Government fees, medical and Emirates ID charges, which are the authority's and charged as they are.

How the work is sequenced

Questions

Frequently asked

Which comes first, the licence or the visa?
The licence. The visa is issued on the company's immigration file, which cannot be opened until the licence exists. Where we form the company, the two are planned as one sequence.
Do I need to be in the UAE to apply?
Not necessarily. An entry permit can be activated on arrival or the status changed inside the country, and the medical test and Emirates ID biometrics are done in person once you are here. The sequence is arranged around your travel.
Can I hold the visa as a partner and still pay myself?
A partner visa does not create an employment relationship; how you take money out of the company โ€” salary, dividends, drawings โ€” is a corporate and tax question, and it is settled with your accountant and your home-country adviser before the visa category is chosen.
How many visas can my company issue?
The quota depends on the jurisdiction, the licence and the premises; a flexi-desk carries fewer than a leased office. We check the quota before the first entry permit is applied for, and again before staff are hired.
Can my family join me?
Sponsoring a spouse, children or parents is a separate application on your own visa, subject to the authority's income and accommodation conditions. The family-sponsorship page sets out the conditions; the first visa is chosen with that in mind.
