Sharjah free zone

Hamriyah: sector parks around a working port

The short answer

Hamriyah Free Zone is a Sharjah free zone built around Hamriyah Port and organised into six sector-specific areas: oil and gas, an industrial manufacturing park, a global logistics park, maritime industry, a food park, and an accelerator hub. It publishes approximately 30 million square metres of industrial land alongside prefabricated warehouses, offices at Hamriyah Business Centre, and separate labour accommodation. It suits heavy and light industry, energy-services businesses, and maritime operations needing land and port access at northern-emirates cost.

Hamriyah is one of the few UAE zones where the sector parks are real rather than nominal. An oil and gas services business sits among oil and gas services businesses, with the supply chain and the labour pool that follows from it.

The scale is the other half of the argument. Roughly 30 million square metres of industrial land means the constraint on an industrial project here is rarely availability, which is not true everywhere in the UAE.

Scope of this page

Velarozone provides setup and operational-readiness coordination. This page is general information, not legal, tax, immigration, or banking advice.

This is for you if

  • You are in oil and gas services, heavy industry, or maritime.
  • You need industrial land rather than a warehouse unit.
  • You need to house a workforce near the operation.
  • You are in food processing and would use a dedicated food park.

This may not be the right route if

  • You are a desk-based consultancy or professional service.
  • A Dubai address matters to your clients.
  • Your freight is high-value air cargo.
  • You need a financial or health regulator.

Hamriyah in detail

The six sector areas

The zone is organised into six business sectors, and the clustering is the reason many occupiers choose it: an oil and gas sector for energy operations, an industrial manufacturing park for general manufacturing, a global logistics park for supply chain and distribution, a maritime industry area for shipping and marine services, a food park for food processing, and an accelerator hub for startups and smaller ventures.

Sitting inside the right park matters more here than the address does. Suppliers, contractors, and skilled labour concentrate around each sector, and that concentration is worth real money in reduced downtime when something needs fixing quickly.

Land, warehousing, and housing the workforce

The zone publishes approximately 30 million square metres of industrial land, prefabricated warehouses built to international standards, and cost-effective offices with licensing options at Hamriyah Business Centre for smaller operations. Separate labour accommodation facilities exist for worker housing.

That range is unusually wide. The same zone can house a single-desk consultancy in the business centre and a multi-hectare industrial plant, which means a business that starts small here has somewhere to grow into without changing authority. For an industrial operator, the labour accommodation is frequently the practical unlock, since housing a workforce is otherwise among the hardest parts of the move.

Against SAIF Zone and KEZAD

Hamriyah's natural comparisons are SAIF Zone in the same emirate and KEZAD in Abu Dhabi. SAIF Zone is airport-adjacent and lighter industrial; Hamriyah is port-based with heavy industrial and maritime capability. If your freight is containerised or your operation is heavy, Hamriyah is the Sharjah answer.

KEZAD is the larger comparison, with deep-water Khalifa Port, twelve zones, and both free-zone and domestic licensing. Where KEZAD wins is scale, port depth, and the domestic-licensing option for UAE-market manufacturers. Where Hamriyah competes is cost and the tightness of its sector clustering. Both are worth pricing for any serious industrial project.

How setup works

The process is the same wherever you incorporate

Structure options, what an engagement covers, and the stages a licence goes through are common to every free zone. They are set out once, in full, rather than repeated on each zone page.
