Entry to search
The UAE job-seeker visa: entry without a sponsor
The short answer
The job-seeker visa is a short-term entry permit that lets qualifying candidates — typically recent graduates of recognised institutions and professionals in classified skill levels — enter the UAE to look for work without an employer or host sponsor. It does not authorise you to work; it gives you legal presence while you interview. If you receive an offer, the employer sponsors a standard employment visa and your status is changed accordingly. Eligibility categories and validity periods are set by the authority.
Historically, coming to the UAE to job-hunt meant arriving on a visit visa and hoping. The job-seeker permit formalises that period for candidates who meet defined skill or education criteria.
It is an entry permit, not employment authorisation. Working — including short freelance work — while on it is not permitted, and doing so creates problems for the employment visa that follows.
The value of the route is time and credibility: you can attend interviews in person and start the sponsorship process without leaving.

Scope of this page
This is for you if
- You meet a qualifying skill classification or graduated from a recognised institution.
- You want to interview in person rather than remotely.
- You have the funds to support a search period without working.
- You expect to convert to an employer-sponsored visa once you receive an offer.
This may not be the right route if
- You intend to work or invoice during the search period.
- You do not meet the published skill or graduation criteria.
- You want long-term residency independent of employment — a different route applies.
- You need family sponsorship during the search period.
Decision factors
What actually decides your route
An adviser works through these factors with you before any structure is recommended. Each one can change the licence, the emirate or free zone, the visa allocation, and the banking conversation.

Questions
Frequently asked
- Can I work while holding a job-seeker visa?
- No. It grants legal presence to search and interview, not the right to work. Working on it can jeopardise the employment visa you are trying to obtain.
- What happens when I get an offer?
- Your employer sponsors a standard employment visa and your status is changed. We coordinate with their PRO so there is no gap.
- Can it be extended?
- Validity and any extension are governed by the authority's current rules, which change. We confirm the position at the time you apply.
- Do I need a degree?
- Not necessarily — the categories cover both recognised graduates and professionals in qualifying skill classifications. We check which, if either, applies.
- Do you find me a job?
- No. We handle the permit and the conversion to employment sponsorship; recruitment is not a service we offer.
