For UK and cross-border operators

UAE setup for UK founders and cross-border operators

The short answer

A UK founder considering a UAE entity has two separate questions: which UAE structure fits the activity and customers, and how the UAE entity interacts with existing UK arrangements. The second question belongs with your UK tax adviser; we handle the UAE structure, documentation, residency route, and banking readiness, and coordinate with them.

Cross-border founders usually arrive with a mix of accurate and inaccurate information. The accurate part is that the UAE has clear formation routes and a competitive tax regime. The inaccurate part is usually the assumption that incorporating here resolves home-country obligations automatically.

We work to the facts: where the work is performed, where management and control sit, where customers are, and what documentation a UAE bank will want from a newly formed entity with a UK-resident founder.

Scope of this page

Velarozone provides setup and operational-readiness coordination. This page is general information, not legal, tax, immigration, or banking advice.

This is for you if

  • You run a UK company or operate as a UK-based consultant and are evaluating a UAE entity.
  • You want the UAE structure planned alongside your UK adviser, not in isolation.
  • You expect to spend meaningful time in the UAE or relocate.
  • You need a realistic view of UAE banking documentation before you commit.

This may not be the right route if

  • You want to keep living and working in the UK while presenting the business as UAE-run.
  • You are looking for a guaranteed tax outcome.
  • You need someone to make UK tax decisions for you.
  • You want an entity with no operational or substance considerations at all.

Decision factors

What actually decides your route

An adviser works through these factors with you before any structure is recommended. Each one can change the licence, the emirate or free zone, the visa allocation, and the banking conversation.

Possible directions

Structure categories an adviser will assess

These are topics for assessment, not recommendations. The right answer depends on your activity, customers, ownership, team, workspace needs, and regulator or bank requirements.

Free-zone company with residency

A common route for service businesses with international clients. Visa allocation and workspace options vary by zone.

Mainland company

Where onshore UAE contracting or a local physical presence matters.

Freelance permit route

For solo professionals whose activity fits a permit rather than a company.

UAE entity alongside the UK company

Two entities with a documented intra-group arrangement, reviewed with your UK adviser.

Holding structure

Where shareholdings should be separated from operations. Requires senior review.

Wait and prepare

Sometimes the right recommendation is to document facts, complete a UK review, and set up later.

Questions

Frequently asked

Does a UAE company make me tax-free?
No. The UAE has a corporate tax regime, and your own tax position depends on facts such as residency and where management and control sit. Those questions belong with a qualified adviser in your home country.
Can I keep my UK company?
Many founders do. Running both requires clear intra-group documentation and input from your UK adviser so the arrangement reflects how the businesses actually operate.
Do I need to live in the UAE?
Residency requirements differ by visa route and are set by the immigration authorities. Time spent in the UAE may also matter to your home-country adviser's analysis, which is a separate question from licensing.
How difficult is UAE banking for a UK founder?
Banks assess the business, the owners, expected flows, and source of funds. A well-prepared application with a clear commercial narrative helps, but approval, timing, and choice of bank remain with the bank.
Can you speak to my accountant?
Yes. We provide a written UAE-side summary designed for your accountant or tax adviser to review, and we can join a joint call.

No obligation · No cost estimate produced · Your details are not shared with third parties.

Start with a structure assessment, not a package

In an initial consultation you receive a plain-language decision summary, a document-preparation list, and the next actions for your situation. It is not an approval, a fixed price, or a tax opinion.

UAE corporate tax, VAT, and free-zone treatment depend on your specific facts. Home-country obligations may also apply. We coordinate with your tax adviser and do not provide a tax opinion.

We do not state that any nationality cannot open a UAE bank account. Cross-border applicants can face additional documentation requests, and each bank applies its own KYC and risk assessment.
