Can I put two activities on one licence?
The short answer
Usually yes, and the real question is which two. A UAE trade licence lists specific activities taken from the licensing authority's own register, and most authorities allow more than one on a single licence. What constrains a combination is the licence family the activities belong to — commercial or trading, professional or services, industrial, and in some registers separate families for media, education, e-commerce, freelance work and general trading. Activities inside one family combine readily. Activities from different families often need either a licence the authority permits to span them or a second licence. Price is a separate axis entirely: some authorities charge by activity count and some do not, and neither tells you whether the combination is permitted.
What a licence family is
Every register we have parsed groups its activities into families, and the family is the first thing that decides whether two activities can sit together. The names differ by authority and they are not translations of one another — Ajman Free Zone's register groups into Commercial, Services, Industrial, E-Commerce, General Trading and Freelancer; RAKEZ's into Commercial, Industrial, Professional, Services, Media, Educational, E-Commerce, General Trading and Freelance Permit; DMCC's into Trading, Service and Industrial; IFZA's into Trade and Service.
Some registers do not publish a family column at all. Meydan, Shams and SPC Free Zone publish their activities against a category or a price grouping instead, which means the combinability question has to be asked of the authority rather than read off the list.
That is a description of what the registers contain, not a ranking. A register with more families is not a better register; it is a register that has drawn its lines in more places.
The questions a combination has to pass
- Do the activities sit in the same licence family in that authority's register?
- If they do not, does the authority permit a licence to span families, and on what condition?
- Does either activity carry an external approval the other does not — and does that approval have to be in hand before the licence issues?
- Does either activity change the workspace, premises or capital requirement for the whole licence rather than just for itself?
- Does the combination still describe one coherent business to a bank reading the licence cold?
Why the honest answer is authority-specific and dated
Combinability is a structural property of a licence type at a particular authority, and we record it that way — permitted, not permitted, or not established. Where an authority has never published whether it mixes categories on one licence, the honest record is 'not established'. That is absence of evidence, and it is not the same as a yes.
Seasonal offers about how many activities are 'included' are promotions rather than structure. They change, they are not a statement about what may lawfully be combined, and we do not record them as catalogue facts.
